Cost and Timeline
The current estimated total for the project is $217 million. The funding for this will come from many sources including Macomb County, new State infrastructure funds, TIFA (Corridor Improvement Authority), private funding, grants, and new Federal funds. Specific grants being considered are the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER), Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-Term Achievement of National Efficiencies (FASTLANE), and Defense Access Road (DAR).
The grant application and submission process will happen in early 2017 with awards announced mid-year. That said, in 2018-2019, grant funds will be sought for enhancements. A shovel ready project will be complete in 2019 and the bidding process will then be initiated. Construction will occur 2020-2022. Throughout this timeline, $3-4 million per year will continue being spent on road maintenance and repair.
