On Wednesday, January 18th, Innovate Mound announced that it was awarded another grant to help in the construction of Mound Road. Back in 2016 Mark Hackel and many Macomb County representatives appealed for the first grant from the Federal Government. Macomb County received that grant in 2018 being awarded a total of 98M dollars and with that Innovate Mound was able to begin the plans and construction for Mound Road. Now, this January Innovate Mound was able to break the 100M dollar barrier by being awarded a grant for 2.5M dollars.
This was accomplished because of the team effort from everyone in the community including Senator Gary Peters (D-MI). He advocated for the county on the importance of this project for all of the businesses that run along the corridor and the community. These businesses are critical to Macomb County and include the Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, and Manufacturing industries which have a major impact on the economy in the surrounding areas.
The additional funding will be used towards the most recent budget proposal in the efforts to support the Arsenal and to continue to make traffic flow more efficiently up and down Mound Road. More specifically the grant will help make improvements to the Detroit Arsenal Gateway at Mound Road, fund the drainage improvements being made, and replace the 70-year-old corrugated box culvert. These new additions to the project will not add additional time or affect travelers of the corridor. We are 55% done with the project and Segment 2 of the project will begin on
March 1st, 2023. The investment in Mound Road will continue to drive growth, innovation, and create jobs in Macomb County.
